FAQs

We want our guests to enjoy their stay with us, so we’ve compiled information that might be useful in preparing for a visit.

  • What time is check-in and check-out?

We ask that you check in after 2:00 p.m.; however, we try to accommodate guests’ preferred arrival time. While we are always on the property, we may leave you a note on the front hall table directing you to your room in case we do not see you arrive. Check-out is generally 10:00 a.m., though we are sometimes able to be flexible.

  • What does “faded elegance” mean?

It means we are always in the process of restoring the antiques that have been enjoyed by many generations—repairing furniture, rugs, and draperies. Guests should also note that while the bathrooms feature newly re-enameled bathtubs with shower attachments, they are smaller than modern bathrooms as we had to fit them into a house that was built before the advent of indoor plumbing.

  • What kind of group events can Welbourne host?

Welbourne welcomes weddings and rehearsal dinners, cocktail and dinner parties, family reunions, conferences, team-building events and more.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

We require a credit card upon booking to hold the room. If your travel plans change, please call us up to seven days prior to your arrival to cancel your reservation. We will charge a $25 cancellation fee. If you must cancel within seven days of arrival, shorten your stay, or check out early, please understand we may have turned away another potential guest and you will be responsible for the entire stay. If we can rebook your room(s), a full or partial refund will be made. A 30-day cancellation notice is required for large group reservations.

  • Is Welbourne able to accommodate dietary restrictions?

Please let us know of any dietary restrictions ahead of time, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

  • What time is cocktail hour and what does that include?

Part of the Welbourne experience is getting to know each other. Guests are welcome and encouraged to help themselves to a drink in the Parlour and gather either there or on the porch, depending on the weather. When we are able, we will join our guests around 6:30 for pre-dinner drinks.

  • Is Welbourne air-conditioned?

All the rooms have window air-conditioning units and fans.

  • Do all the guest rooms include working fireplaces?

Three of the five main bedrooms have wood-burning fireplaces, as do the Parlour, Music Room, and Dining Room. We will supply firewood for $12 per bundle.

  • Does Welbourne have Wi-Fi?

Although our guests generally come for the peace and quiet of the country, Welbourne has high-speed fiber broadband. We have limited cell service so we recommend using internet calling while you are here.

  • What is Welbourne’s policy on children?

We are child-friendly. We have a portable crib, high chair, and booster seat, as well as various toys and games to entertain children.

  • What about dogs?

We love friendly dogs! Please be advised that there are a number of resident dogs, so we ask that you keep your dog leashed at all times outside your room and not let our dogs in the house. While we do not charge extra for dogs, there will be a $250 assessment if there is any dog-related damage.

  • How far are you from downtown Middleburg?

Middleburg is 10 minutes to the east of Welbourne and Upperville is 10 minutes to the west.

  • How far are you from Dulles airport and do I need a car?

We are 45 minutes from Dulles airport. There is no public transportation in our rural area so a car is a necessity. Uber is available, but unreliable as there are few local drivers. We can recommend drivers we use for airport transportation.
